Green Poci – (Pocillopora Damicornis)

Green Poci is a perfect entry level SPS coral, due to it’s resistance to stress events and lower light and flow requirements than similar SPS coral. It grows in a tight, branching formation with blunt tips, giving it the common name “Cauliflower coral”, in lower flow environments, the branching growth may be less dense, with it growing more dense and compact in high flow. In the wild, Pocillopora species are the second most productive “reef building” coral genus, second to Acropora. Pocillopora Damicornis is most commonly found in the hobby in green and pink, with the green colour variant providing a bright pop of colour under blue lights.

Unlike Acropora, Pocillopora has a good resistance to bleaching, and tolerates a larger range of water conditions. Pocillopora, like many corals, can be reproduced in two ways, through fragmenting or “fragging” or spawning. Pocillopora Damicornis has the ability to self fertilise, and spawns readily in captivity, if all conditional and nutritional needs are adequately met, this makes Green Poci a great choice for the experience reefer looking for the next challenge.
